Collin College Announces the 2022 Outstanding Professor, R.O.S.E. Award Finalists

June 21, 2022 The finalists for Collin Colleges annual Outstanding Professor Award and the Recognition of Service and Excellence (R.O.S.E.) Award were announced in May and June, respectively.

The Outstanding Professor Award recognizes one full-time faculty member each year for their exemplary teaching and outstanding service to the college, community, and profession. This award serves the further purpose of selecting an outstanding faculty member to represent the college at the state level for the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award. Previously, there have been seven Collin College faculty who have received the prestigious award.

The Outstanding Professor finalists are exceptional faculty members recognized by their peers for their teaching effectiveness and creativity in the classroom, positive impact on students, subject mastery and scholarship, and service to the college and their community. The 2022 finalists are:

  • Dr. Millie D. Black, professor of Political Science, Wylie Campus
  • Dr. Donna Cain, professor of Biology, Plano Campus
  • Dr. Kimberly Harris, professor of Music, McKinney Campus
  • Dr. John Macready, professor of Philosophy, Plano Campus
  • Dr. Rebecca Orr, professor of Biology, iCollin

The Outstanding Professor Award winner and finalists receive a cash award, an engraved plaque, and additional funding toward professional development and travel during the upcoming academic year.

The R.O.S.E. Award honors staff members who consistently demonstrate Collin Colleges core values via service to the college, staff, students, and/or the community. The award is Collins highest staff recognition, and this year it will be given to one full-time staff member. Nominees and finalists were given a yellow rose and a certificate. Finalists for the award also received an engraved glass trophy. The 2022 finalists are:

  • Carolyn Braswell,counselor, Plano Campus
  • Cindy Duffer,assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs and Workforce, Plano Campus
  • Emery McArtor,associate project manager of Telecommunications, McKinney Campus
  • Linda Trop,administrative assistant, McKinney Campus
  • Sheila Swenholt, library technical services assistant, Plano Campus

A June 14 ceremony honored all other R.O.S.E. Award nominees. That list included: Shane Apple, John B. Brewer Jr., John Byers, Sonia Castillo, Francis Choy, Pamela Darling-Facio, Monica Davenport, Debbie Dunn, Grace Fox, Gary Goldgar, Jacqueline Grayzk, Colin Helm, Summer Helm, Jeanne Johnson, Sandra McElwain, Alyssa Moore, Tara Rice, Casey Richardson, Kelly Rossato, Kate Smith, Lisa Soural, Karla Tombaugh, Janice Vanover, Laura Varnell, Bridget Vosloo, Katherine Wallis, Heather Webb-Losh, Micah Wesson, and Lisa Zachmann.

The R.O.S.E Award and Outstanding Professor winners will be announced at All College Day, the districts annual academic year kickoff event in August.
