Aug. 10, 2023 – Collin College is excited to announce the launch of its new Physical Therapist Assistant program, starting this fall at the Frisco Campus.
This two-year program, spanning six semesters, will offer students comprehensive classroom, lab, and clinical education opportunities to obtain the foundation, knowledge, and technical experience needed as a physical therapist assistant. Upon graduation, students will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant. The program has received approval from both The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
As part of the college’s commitment to expanding healthcare program options, it has chosen the Frisco Campus for this innovative program. Frisco, known for its thriving sports and physical therapy industry, offers a perfect environment for students to immerse themselves in this dynamic field.
“The city of Frisco has a tremendous sports and physical therapy presence, and we are so fortunate to have this space available at the Frisco Campus so we can centralize this program right in the heart of the industry,” said Michelle Millen, Dean of Academic Affairs and Workforce at the McKinney Campus.
Collin College has healthcare programs spread across the college district. Offered at the Frisco Campus, Physical Therapist Assistant program has transformed the former dance studio building at the Frisco Campus into a health sciences lab which will serve as a crucial hub for students enrolled in the Physical Therapist Assistant program.
In Fall 2020, Collin College initiated the Rehabilitation Aide program at the Technical Campus in Allen, providing students with a solid introduction in the essentials of a physical therapist assistant program.“Rehabilitation Aide provides students the chance to test the waters before they fully commit to physical therapy, and now they can continue that path with our new Physical Therapist Assisting program,” Millen said. Collin College also collaborates with ISD partners to offer Rehabilitation Aide as a dual credit pathway, enabling students to embark on this journey as early as high school. The Rehabilitation Aide program will remain at the Technical Campus.
Millen said she is thrilled about the opportunities this new program will provide for aspiring physical therapist assistants and looking forward to contributing skilled professionals to the thriving healthcare community in Frisco.
