Collin College Offers Free Concert Series Features Multiple Musical Styles

Collin College welcomes the public to its annual free music series throughout November at its Plano Campus. Community members are encouraged to come and enjoy these free concerts performed by the college’s exceptional student musicians.
The following events are free and open to the public, although reservations are encouraged for events in the Plano Campus’ John Anthony Theatre. Reservations can be made by clicking the appropriate calendar link at www.collin.edu/finearts/#Events.
Jazz Combos
Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre
This concert will feature the Collin Jazz Combo PM and Jazz Combo Too, with works from multiple styles, including swing, bebop, fusion, Latin, and popular music.
Chamber Choir
Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre
In collaboration with Collin Dance Ensemble, the chamber choir will perform Lauridsen’s Les Chansons des Roses along with other beautiful choral works.
Keyboard Ensemble and Honors Voice
Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre
The Honor’s Voice portion of this program features elite vocalists from the vocal studios of Collin College performing operatic arias and art songs to showcase their accomplishments for the semester. The Keyboard Ensemble features performers whose main area of concentration is piano. Performances on Collin College’s two Steinway concert grands include duets and quartets by Mozart, Fauré, Barber, Rachmaninoff, and others.
Jazztet and Jazz Lab Band
Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre
This concert will feature the Collin Jazztet and Jazz Lab Band with works from multiple styles, including swing, bebop, fusion, Latin, and popular music.
String and Symphonic Wind Ensembles
Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre
The concert will feature traditional and contemporary works for orchestra and band.
Guitar Ensemble
Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre
Collin College’s award-winning One O’Clock Guitar Ensemble will perform a program of music from various historical periods.
OneSound a Capella
Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre
Award-winning student a capella group OneSound will wow the audience with their unique arrangements and choreography of current pop songs and hits from the past.
New Music Ensemble
Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in The Art Gallery
The New Music Ensemble will present a concert of original works by Collin College student composers focusing on contemporary experimental music.
Solo Guitar
Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Living Legends Conference Center
This guitar recital will feature students performing classical guitar solo works from the Renaissance to the present day.
