Collin College Presents A Free Concert Series in April, May

Collin College welcomes the public to a free music series in April and May at its Plano Campus. Community members are encouraged to come and enjoy these free concerts performed by the college’s talented student musicians.

The following events are free and open to the public, although reservations are encouraged for events in the Plano Campus’ John Anthony Theatre. Reservations can be made by clicking the appropriate calendar link at www.collin.edu/finearts/#Events.

 

Choir and Keyboard

Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre  

This concert’s first half will include performances with two, three, and four pianists at a time on Collin’s two Steinway concert grands as well as works for piano with another instrument all performed by the Collin College Keyboard Ensemble. Collin’s Chamber Choir will begin the second half featuring performances of selections from larger choral works such as Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem and Rutter’s Magnificat as well as movements from instrumental works that have been set for choir. 

 

Honors Voice Gala

Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre  

Sit back and pour yourself into an evening of sumptuous and compelling vocal music. The Honors Voice Gala features beautiful selections from the classical art song repertoire and select arias showcasing the singers from the voice studios of Natalie Arduino and Casey L. Carter. 

 

OneSound a Capella

Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre  

Award-winning student a capella choir, OneSound, will wow the audience with their unique arrangements and choreography of current pop songs as well as hits from the past. The performance will be free of charge and kid friendly.

 

String and Symphonic Wind Ensembles

Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre  

The concert will feature traditional and contemporary works for orchestra and band.

 

Guitar Ensemble

Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre  

Collin College’s award-winning One O’Clock Guitar Ensemble will perform a program of music from various historical periods.

 

Jazztet and Combo Too

Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre

This concert will feature Jazztet and Jazz Combo Too, with works from multiple styles, including swing, bebop, fusion, Latin, and popular music.

 

Jazz Lab Band and Combo PM

Saturday, April 27 at 7 p.m. in the John Anthony Theatre

This concert will feature the Collin Jazz Combo PM and Jazz Lab Band, with works from multiple styles, including swing, bebop, fusion, Latin, and popular music.

 

Opera in a Box

Sunday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. in the Plano Campus atrium

Monday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Plano Campus atrium

A cantankerous third grader, an outrageous grandmother, and a cake-hating wolf will have you laughing until your side hurts in this uproarious retelling of Little Red Riding Hood by Seymour Barab. Enjoy a new cast of opera theatre singers at each performance. 

 

New Music Ensemble

Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in The Art Gallery

The New Music Ensemble will present a concert of original works by Collin College student composers focusing on contemporary experimental music.

 

Solo Guitar

Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the Living Legends Conference Center

This guitar recital will feature students performing classical guitar solo works from the Renaissance to the present day.
