A huge thank-you to Collin College employees for making this year’s Silent Auction another tremendous success! Together, we raised more than $32,000 for student scholarships. A special thank-you goes to the Construction and Facilities team, whose significant support each year helps make this event a big success. Their efforts with Collin’s vendor partners bring in some truly unique and exciting items for the auction.
For the first time in Collin College history, a Collin Dual Credit student, Aryan Shome, earned the No. 1 national ranking in the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges Student Mathematics
League. This league is a nationwide competition for students enrolled at community
and two-year colleges. The competition covers mathematics through pre-calculus with
problems designed to test creativity, analytical thinking, and advanced problem-solving
skills. Approximately 6,000 students compete each year from across the country.
For the second year in a row, the Physical Therapist Assistant program had a 100% first-time licensure pass rate. Last year, the first graduating class was one of the 21 programs out of 354 to achieve
a 100% first-time pass rate.
Dean of Nursing Amy Wilson received approval for the Nursing Shortage Reduction Program grant in the amount of $1,084,499. This amount is among the largest in the nursing program’s history and is directly related to the program's recent growth.
Based on data reported in the 2025 Nursing Education Program Information Survey, Collin College’s RN-to-BSN program ranked fourth in Texas for RN-to-BSN student enrollment as of Sept. 30, 2025, and fifth in the state for RN-to-BSN graduates during the 2024-25 academic year. These rankings reflect the continued growth and success of the program in supporting baccalaureate nursing education.
McKinney Campus Math Lab Instructor Ana Mendez co-authored the article “Who Wins? Analysis and Simulation of a Batch Culture Model of Bacterial Competition in the Presence of Plasmids.” The article appeared in the July issue of Bulletin of Mathematical Biology.
Reference Librarians Shannon Alexander and William Schaeffer’s presentation titled “249 Collection Closet Cleanout: Crafting a ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ to Boost Circulation” has been selected for showing at the Texas Library Association 2027 Annual Conference.
Farmersville Campus Agriculture Professor Nicholas Cassell earned his Ph.D. in Agriculture on Aug. 10 from The Ohio State University.
Plano Campus Music Technology Coordinator Nick Knirk successfully defended his master’s degree thesis titled “Gypsy Spirit Suite: An Original Jazz Manouche Composition For Large Ensemble” at Stephen F. Austin State University.
The Celina Campus team attended two outreach summer events, informing participants about Collin College. This included Splash & Bash, hosted by the City of Celina on June 27, with 1,252 visitors, and Pride in the Sky, hosted by the Town of Prosper on July 2, with 1,318 visitors.
After 20 years of service, Collin College Police Department Sergeant Curtis Martin will be retiring.
Collin College Police Department Lieutenant Eric Hawkins and Officer Brad Taylor tabled at Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne’s North Texas Job Fair at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Aug. 6. With more than 35,000 attendees, they were able to make some great connections with prospective candidates to join the Collin College team.
