Veterans Benefits Requirement Checklists

  •     Chapter 30 - Montgomery GI Bill®
    • The Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (Chapter 30) provides up to 36 months of educational benefits to service members with at least two years of active duty. This benefit is typically payable for 10 years following a service member’s release from active duty. Entered active duty military on or after July 1, 1985

  •     Chapter 33 - Post-9/11 GI Bill®
    • The Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) provides benefits for students who served in the military on active duty for at least 90 aggregate days after September 10, 2001, or if the student was discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge. 

  •     Chapter 33 - Transfer 
    • The Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or eligible dependents of veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. This program typically offers up to 45 months of educational benefits.

  •     Chapter 35 - Survivors & Dependents Assistance
    • The Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or eligible dependents of veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. This program typically offers up to 45 months of educational benefits.

  •     Chapter 1606 - Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserves*
    • The Montgomery GI Bill® for Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Selected Reserve. Selected Reserve includes the Air Force Reserve, Army Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, the Army National Guard, and the Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by the Selected Reserve components, and the VA makes payments for the program. Eligibility is for up to 36 months of benefits but typically ends on the day the reservist leaves the Selected Reserve.

  •     Chapter 31- Veteran Readiness & Employment
    • Students who qualify for Veteran Readiness & Employment must meet with the Veterans Services Office before turning in any paperwork.  Students should email the VRC@collin.edu to make an appointment.
