Automotive Technology Additional Training

Do you want to learn and develop skills to give you the foundation to become a modern automotive technician?  Collin College’s Automotive Technology program is a pathway that provides up-to-date training on the operation, diagnostics and repairs of automobiles to jump-start your career!  Our program offers certificates from those wanting to become a maintenance technician all the way up to our two-year associate of applied science degree where you learn every aspect of automobiles including battery electric vehicles. Additionally, our program has cooperative education courses which will require you to gain employment as a technician. It is a great way to apply what you have learned!

As part of the General Automotive Technology program, students have a flexible route to help prepare them for their desired technician job. Students learn on different vehicles and manufacturers, but students can optionally participate in one of our micro partnership trainings: Ford Automotive Career Exploration (ACE), Subaru University, or Mercedes Benz (MB) Star.  These are not mandatory and require additional work above the program.

Additional Trainings
In the Ford ACE training, students will have access to Ford’s Web-Based Training modules.  If you choose to become employed at a Ford or Lincoln dealership, you will then have the foundations to complete Ford’s in-person training to become a certified Ford-Lincoln service technician. In the MB Star training, the student will be able to complete Mercedes Benz online training which, if they become employed at a Mercedes Benz dealer, can finish their in-person training after graduating from the General Automotive Technology program.  This will allow the student to become a certified Mercedes Benz technician upon successful completion of all these tasks.  In Subaru University, Subaru’s Web-Based Training echoes the curriculum taught giving students an advantage of completing most of the entry-level training that is required of a Subaru technician, with a possibility of testing out to advance their training even further.
