Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center Public Safety Training Center

Preparing professionals for optimal performance in challenging environments is the mission of the Health Sciences and Emergency Services division at Collin College.

 

With programs located at campuses throughout the Collin College district, the division offers certificates and degrees in the following specialties:

Continuing Education (CE) Health Sciences also offers a wide range of courses in both direct patient care and non-clinical healthcare.
 

The majority of the programs are housed in the Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center at the McKinney Campus, which opened in January 2016. The three-story, 125,000-square-foot facility features classrooms and unique labs for students in Emergency Medical Services, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Polysomnographic Technology, Respiratory Care, Health Information Management, Surgical Assisting, Surgical Technology, Central Sterile Processing, and Continuing Education (CE) Health Sciences. Highlights include a simulation lab with hi-fidelity human patient simulators, an emergency room lab, mock ambulance, emergency medical services labs, a diagnostic medical sonography lab, a sleep study lab, nursing skills labs, a respiratory care lab, an operating room lab with post-op area, a surgical technology lab with a scrub room, and a central sterile supply lab with decontamination and sterile prep areas. The building also includes the Abernathy Family Lecture Hall, which has a seating capacity of 144. Dental Hygiene is housed at the McKinney Campus as well in the main building.

 

The Public Safety Training Center in McKinney opened in Fall 2018 and serves as the home for the Fire Science and Law Enforcement academies at Collin College. The center also provides expanded training and professional development opportunities for local fire departments and law enforcement agencies. Situated on 25 acres, the center consists of fire science training grounds, a reality-based simulation village for police training, three separate shooting ranges, nine classrooms, and 200 parking spaces. Including the main building, two burn structures, and an outdoor pavilion, the center occupies 128,000 square feet.

 

The remainder of the Health Sciences programs are scattered throughout the Collin County district. Health Professions can be found at the Wylie, Celina, and Technical Campuses, in addition to various Collin County ISDs with their dual credit offerings. The Activity Care Professional and Pharmacy Technician programs are housed at the Technical Campus. The Frisco Campus houses the Physical Therapist Assistant program, while the Medical Assisting Advanced Practice program is located at the Wylie, Farmersville, Plano, and Technical Campuses.
