Meningitis Vaccination Requirements
Law Enforcement Department Hired Cadets: - Department representative contacts the Academy Training Coordinator to reserve a spot in the academy. Please contact Bryan Russell at brussell@collin.edu.
Independent Cadet Applicants:
(Law Enforcement Department Hired Cadets have priority for cadet spots in the Academy; if cadet spots are available then independent applicants will be allowed into the academy).
Step 1: Review the “Minimum Enrollment Requirements for training as a Texas Peace Officer,” which are established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). All applicants (hired and independent) must meet all minimum enrollment requirements. (RULE §217.1)

Step 2: Contact the Academy Training Coordinator to obtain an academy enrollment application (Personal History Statement). Compile all required documents listed in PHS and be prepared to bring all the required documents with you when you turn in your Personal History Statement to the Training Coordinator. You can email the Training Coordinator at brussell@collin.edu and request a Personal History Statement to begin the process.
Step 3: After your PHS is reviewed by training staff and accepted, the next step is the Physical Fitness Assessment. The Training Coordinator will schedule a date for you to take your physical fitness assessment. Below are the physical requirements:

Time Limit of 1 minute
Age 21-29: Male 26, Female 20/13
Age 30-39: Male 20, Female 15/9
Age 40-49: Male 15, Female 10/7
Age 50 + : Male 12, Female 7/5
Abdominal Strength (Sit-Ups)
Time Limit of 1 minute
Age 21-29: Male 35, Female 30
Age 30-39: Male 32, Female 22
Age 40-49: Male 27, Female 17
Age 50 + : Male 24, Female 14
Cardio Respiratory Endurance
Time Limit in 1.5 Mile Run
Age 21-29: Male 13:08, Female 15:56
Age 30-39: Male 13:48, Female 16:46
Age 40-49: Male 14:33, Female 18:26
Age 50 + : Male 15:50, Female 19:45
Step 4: After passing your Physical Fitness Assessment, the Academy Staff will conduct a background investigation and a driver’s evaluation form on you. During this process, you will have a criminal background check completed and provide a certified driver’s record to the Training Coordinator.
Step 5: After passing the background investigation, the next step will an be oral board. The Training Coordinator will schedule an oral board for you to attend.
If you pass the oral board, you will receive additional official documents for completing the application process. These will include scheduling a physical assessment/drug screen (L2) and psychological (L3).

Step 6: Upon successful completion of steps 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 your application will be recommended or not recommended to the Academy Director for acceptance by Training Staff.
The Director will make the final decision if you are accepted into the Collin College Law Enforcement Academy.
Step 7: If accepted, the Training Coordinator will notify you and you will receive a letter of confirmation.
Independent applicants have to pay for the criminal background check, certified driver’s record, physical assessment/drug screen, psychological, Academy tuition if accepted, and all equipment needed for the Academy.
