Library Cards

  • Currently enrolled Collin students must present a Student ID at the Library Checkout Desk and may need to fill out a library card application form.
  • Faculty and staff must present a Collin Faculty or Staff ID at the Library Checkout Desk and may need to fill out a library card application form.
  • Note: New faculty and staff must show verification of Collin employment at the Checkout Desk if library materials are needed prior to the issuance of a Faculty or Staff ID.
  • Residents of Collin County age 16 and over must show proof of residency, such as valid driver's license or other government-issued picture ID, at the Library Checkout Desk to obtain a library card.

 

Check Out

  • A library card is required for all transactions.
  • Patrons with overdue items or outstanding library fees are not eligible to check out materials.
  • Books, audio books, music CDs, and software check out for 3 weeks to students and community patrons and for 6 weeks to faculty and staff..
  • DVDs and Blu-rays check out for 7 days.
  • Books, DVDs, music CDs, audio books and software may be returned to any library, either inside or to the outside dropboxes located at most campus libraries. 
  • Laptops, calculators and maker kits must be returned directly to the Checkout Desk inside the campus library from which they were originally checked out.
  • Some TI graphing calculators check out to current credit students for 4 hours for use anywhere on campus. Limited quantities may be available for 14-day and semester checkout for use off campus. Only one calculator may be checked out at a time.
  • Laptops check out to current credit students for 4 hours for in-library use. Some laptops may be available for 14-day and semester checkout for use outside of the library at some times and locations. Only one laptop may be checked out at a time.
  • A limited number of calculators, laptops, and maker kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Holds are not permitted.
  • Some campus libraries offer study rooms on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations.

To assure avalability of materials as our enrollment increases, the following limits are set in our integrated library system:

Renewals

  • A library card is required for all transactions.
  • Students, faculty, staff and community members can renew books, music CDs, audio books and software two (2) times provided there are no holds on the material.
  • DVDs and Blu-rays may not be renewed by phone or online.
  • The availability of renewals for laptops and calculators varies by campus and length of checkout and may not be permitted. Contact us to determine if your item can be renewed.

Late Fees

  • Games-Kits - $0.50 / day
  • Makerspace Kits - $20.00 / day
  • On-campus equipment - $10.00 / day
  • Off-campus equipment - $10.00 / day
  • Textbooks/Course Reserves - $1.00 / hour
  • Study Rooms - $5.00 / hour
  • Semester equipment - $10.00 / day

 

Reserve Materials

  • Reserve materials such as books, videos and other materials assigned for classes are available to current credit students only, at the Checkout Desk.
  • Checkout time varies by campus and course.
