This the highest honor that may be bestowed by the U.S. House of Representatives upon a civilian under the age of 24, other than the Purple Heart. Osornio had previously been recognized as one of “DFW’s Next Latino Leaders” by Informate Magazine.
Osornio, a Plano resident, received the medal because of his dedication to community involvement and volunteering. He founded a nonprofit that provides leadership instruction and opportunities for high school students.
“From my volunteering work, I can truly say that serving others and volunteering is power,” Osornio said. “I encourage students to find what they’re passionate about and turn that into something meaningful.”
Collin College serves nearly 52,000 credit and continuing education students annually
and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates in a wide range of disciplines.
The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government
and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
