Jan. 11, 2021 For the first time, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Power Leadership Breakfast will be virtual. A pre-recorded program with a format similar to past years will go live on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 9 a.m.

While we would prefer to have this years MLK breakfast in-person, the breakfast planning committee is always grateful for the opportunity to celebrate and honor the life, legacy, and sacrifice of Dr. King, said Dr. Millie Black, event co-chair and professor of political science at Collin College.

The theme for this year is Justice, centered around Dr. Kings quote, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

This years MLK breakfast theme is meant to acknowledge current events surrounding racial injustice with the hopes to continue an open and honest dialogue discussing issues of fairness, equality, and (in)justice, Dr. Black said.

The breakfast will include conversations with three community leaders: Angela Tucker, 199th Texas district court judge; Ed Drain, Plano police chief; and Dr. Neil Matkin, Collin College district president.

In order to view the event live online at 9 a.m. on Jan. 16, please visit www.facebook.com/CollinCountyMLK.

Members of the Plano MLK Celebration Committee are also organizing a virtual MLK Come.Unity church service. The service is planned for Sunday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. and can also be viewed through www.facebook.com/CollinCountyMLK.
