Collin College Announces 2021 Outstanding Professor, ROSE Award Finalists

July 14, 2021 The finalists for Collin Colleges annual Outstanding Professor Award and the Recognition of Service and Excellence (R.O.S.E.) Award were announced in May and June, respectively.

The Outstanding Professor Award recognizes one full-time faculty member each year for their exemplary teaching and outstanding service to the college, community, and profession. This award serves the further purpose of selecting an outstanding faculty member to represent the college at the state level for the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award.

The Outstanding Professor finalists are exceptional faculty members recognized by their peers for their teaching effectiveness and creativity in the classroom, positive impact on students, subject mastery and scholarship, and service to the college and their community. The 2021 finalists are:

  • Mindi Bailey, M.A., Professor of Humanities, Frisco Campus
  • Martha Chalhoub, M.S., Professor of Mathematics, Frisco Campus
  • Michael Latham, Ph.D., Professor of Economics, Plano Campus
  • Tracey McKenzie, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology, Frisco Campus

The Outstanding Professor Award winner and finalists receive a cash award, an engraved plaque, and additional funding toward professional development and travel during the upcoming academic year.

The R.O.S.E. Award honors staff members who consistently demonstrate Collin Colleges core values via service to the college, staff, students, and/or the community. The award is Collins highest staff recognition, and this year it will be given to one full-time staff member. Both nominees and finalists were given a yellow rose and a certificate. Finalists for the award also received an engraved glass trophy. The 2021 finalists are:

  • Shane Apple,associate registrar
  • Bonni Capobianco,director of Library Technical Services
  • Jennifer Clay,executive assistant to the Wylie Campus provost
  • Susy Mathews,teacher Child Development
  • Sherry Scamardo,program manager for Seniors Active In Learning (SAIL)

A June 16 ceremony honored all other R.O.S.E. Award nominees. That list included: Ann Blackman, Kirk Dickey, Cindy Duffer, Ophelia Eftekhar, Phyllis Martin, Erika McIlnay, Cassie Peak, Kathy Phan, Jin-Ja Rho, Mariana Sanchez, G'Anna Saunders, Katie Smith, and Kristin Swenholt.

The R.O.S.E. Award and Outstanding Professor winners will be announced at All College Day, the districts annual academic year kickoff event.
