Collin Colleges Dignity Initiative Offers Three Events in March

Feb. 28, 2022 Collin College continues its spring Dignity Initiative series with three new events in March open to the college community and the public. The Dignity Initiative is a districtwide effort organized by the Collin College Committee Against Gender Violence and Oppression to educate and provide action steps to end gender-based oppression.

The events planned for March are the following:

 

Telling Amys Story
March 15, 5:30-7 p.m.
Frisco Campus Conference Center E

Telling Amys Storyis a documentary that follows the timeline of a domestic violence homicide. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion on warning signs of an unhealthy relationship and available community resources.

 

Lets Get RAD: Learn the RAD System of Self-Defense
March 24, 5:30-7 p.m.
McKinney Campus Conference Center

The McKinney Campus Dignity Initiative Committee is proud to sponsor Lets Get RAD: Learn the RAD system of Self-Defense. This workshop will introduce female attendees to the basics of the Rape Aggression Defense program. The full training sessions will be offered by the Collin College Police Department later this semester. Pizza and soft drinks will be served. This event is only open to female attendees.

 

Gender-Based Violence: A Growing Epidemic
March 31, 5:30-6:45 p.m.

A panel of guest speakers will lead a discussion on gender-based violence. Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Affairs Arianna Gray will discuss gender-based violence in the military, Grandmaster and owner of Vision Martial Arts Center Diane Reeve Kirby will give a self-defense demonstration, and a representative from Hopes Door New Beginnings will speak about the services their organization provides to help victims of domestic violence.
