Collin College Offers Summer Camps

March 9, 2022 Collin College will offer a variety of camps this summer. Middle school and high school students can select camps ranging from American Sign Language to robotics, and certain subjects are repeated at multiple campuses. The following camps, listed by start date, will be held in May, June, and July and are located on the colleges campuses in Allen, Celina, Farmersville, Frisco, Plano, and Wylie. Summer Youth Creative Writing Camp
Tuesday-Friday, May 31-June 3, 9 a.m.-Noon
Plano Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano

The Collin College Creative Writing Camp will allow students entering seventh or eighth grade the opportunity to spend four days honing their creative writing skills in workshops focused on poetry, flash fiction, and memoir. Instructors include Collin College full-time faculty who are also published writers. The week ends with a celebratory open mic for students to share their creative works with one another and invited friends and family. The cost of the camp is $175 and includes some sweet Collin swag. American Sign Language (ASL) Camp
Monday-Friday, June 6-17 (10 days total), Noon-4 p.m.
Plano Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano

The ASL Summer Camp is a fun, interactive experience that takes place in person on the Plano Campus and provides an introduction to all aspects of American Sign Language. In this camp, students will learn nearly 700 manual signs and essential vocabulary, as well as the finger-spelling alphabet and deaf culture/disability awareness. The camps Deaf staff will help students learn to use American Sign Language for a variety of situations with the camp ending in a Deaf event where we will provide pizza and drinks. Culinary, Pastry, and Hospitality Camps

This camp is open to students in grades 6-8. Students will be given recipes to execute according to the theme of the cuisine of the day. Campers will be able to consume a portion of their food while packaging the remaining portions to take with them. This is a great opportunity for students to get their first exposure to what scratch cooking is in addition to being exposed to new cuisines. It will also be a great first-hand experience to see how a commercial kitchen operates and where the behind-the-scenes magic really happens. Robotics Camp

Students in grades 7-10 will stimulate their minds and unleash their creativity in this camp. This is a hands-on, minds-on camp! The camp includes four daily sessions devoted to robotics. Snacks will be provided. The cost is $100 and includes supplies and snacks. Creating with Canva Camp
Monday-Friday, June 13-17, 9 a.m.-Noon
Wylie Campus, Library, 391 Country Club Rd, Wylie

Students ages 13-18 who are interested in learning how to use the graphic design tool Canva will have the opportunity to participate in the Wylie Campus librarys first annual camp. Each student will learn how to design and create fun projects including a button to pin onto clothing or a bag, a bookmark, a comic strip, and a photo collage. The library will provide all supplies needed to complete these projects. The cost of attendance will be $100 and includes snacks. Electronics Camp

This camp is for eighth and ninth grade students who are interested in the basics of electronics. From learning to solder to building small electronic devices, this camp will provide hands-on experience in electronics. The cost for the camp is $125 and includes snacks and a drink. Collin College Vet Sci Camp

Students in grades 9-12 who enjoy working with animals, are excited by science, and would like to explore career options for veterinary health professionals will have the opportunity to participate in the first annual Collin College Vet Sci Camp in June of 2022. Participants will experience first-hand the engaging world of veterinary medicine. Find out more about what it takes to become a veterinary technician or veterinarian through presentations, demonstrations, laboratories, and hands-on activities where students are given the opportunity to experience the various roles on a veterinary team. Refinisher Paint Camp
Monday-Wednesday, June 27-29, 8 a.m.-Noon
Technical Campus, 2550 Bending Branch Way, Allen

This camp is open to participants entering grades 9-12. Participants explore how to prepare a panel to refinish, apply waterborne paint technology, and create custom paint designs using fine-line tape. Campers will learn the fundamentals of automotive refinishing as well as the safety aspects. Campers will create their own design and take home a custom-designed miniature hood. Campers will encounter dust, chemicals, and paint fumes. Due to the nature of the environment, those with dust and allergen sensitivities may be susceptible to acute respiratory reactions. Air-supplied respirators, 3M particulate respirators, and all other safety equipment will be provided. Students will also receive a camp t-shirt. The cost is $175. Animation and Game Art Camp

Students in grades 6-8 will learn how to write, design, and tell a story through storyboarding and animation technology by creating an animatic. Students should bring their imagination and ideas to this camp. No previous drawing skills are required. The cost is $150 per camper and includes hands-on instruction from Collin College faculty. Broadcast TV Camp

Students in grades 9-12 will spend three half-days learning how to use video equipment to create a T.V. show, documentary, and narrative film. Crime Scene Investigation Camp

Learn hands-on forensic investigation techniques at the Crime Scene Investigation summer camp. Experts in criminal justice take participants through exercises that apply forensic methods to prepare crime scenes. Participants learn proper search procedures, as well as identification, documentation, preservation, and collection of crime scene evidence including fingerprints, DNA, blood, and shoe and tire impressions. Mock crime scene activities and evidence are age appropriate and challenging. Campers entering grades 9-12 are eligible to attend. The cost is $100 per participant and includes supplies and snacks. Collin Summer Dance Festival

The Collin Summer Dance Festival is a week-long summer dance intensive that welcomes dancers ages 14 and up with all levels of dance skill beginning through advanced. Each year the festival features a new class schedule selected from some of the following genres: modern, ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, salsa, swing, musical theatre, hip-hop, improvisation, and more. Teen Summer Art Camp

Collin College Wylie Campus art faculty and staff are excited to offer the first Teen Summer Art Camp. Join us to learn about historical and contemporary master artists while creating your own studies investigating the theme of IDENTITY. The camp will introduce students ages 13-18 to a variety of mediums, techniques, and compositions, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and digital photography. The media-specific studios will help students find their artistic voices. Students will have the ability to choose two mediums to focus on for the week. The cost is $150 for the week. All supplies will be provided as well as a t-shirt and tote bag. Snacks will also be provided. The week will end with a small exhibition reception showcasing the artwork created throughout the week. Texas All-Star Jazz Camp

The Texas All-Star Jazz Camp is a week-long immersive jazz program offering aspiring young musicians (ages 13 and older) the opportunity to perform music with their peers and learn from an outstanding faculty of professional musicians and educators in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. Our curriculum includes daily ensemble rehearsals, masterclasses, and workshops for all skill levels in jazz improvisation and jazz theory. Students (along with their families and friends) are also invited to attend evening concerts featuring our faculty big band and award-winning saxophonist and composer Christine Jensen. The week culminates in a Student Showcase concert held on Friday. Early Bird tuition (paid before April 30) is $375 and includes a camp t-shirt and tickets to all evening concerts. Young Artist Masters Camp

The Young Artist Masters Camp is excited to host amazing local artists/educators for a week-long summer art camp at Collin College Plano Campus. Students entering sixth through eighth grades will learn about historical and contemporary master artists while creating their own studies investigating the theme of Identity. A variety of techniques, mediums, and compositions will be investigated in media specific studios to help each student find their artistic voice. Instructors Alana Balch and Melissa Wilson from Allen ISD will join the camp. There are 20 seats available. Join Collin Colleges faculty and staff for a week of immersion into the art of photography. During the camp, students will explore the studio where they will each create professional quality studio portraits. Students will also be photographing on campus with instructors, learning the basics of photography software, and making their own photographic prints. The cost of the camp is $100 and includes all the supplies campers will need, including a camera. Each student will also receive a camp t-shirt. Criminal Justice Camp

Designed for students in grades 8-10 with 20 spots available, this camp will provide an overview of typical criminal cases including a review of police, courts, and correctional aspects of the American criminal justice system.It will also include a lab day to examine scientific aspects of physical evidence.Students will have the opportunity to engage in mock activities that represent components of the criminal justice system and take on hypothetical roles of players in the system.The cost is $125.00 per camper and includes hands-on instruction from Collin College faculty.
