Respiratory Care Program Earns Prestigious Award for Tenth Consecutive Year

Aug. 25, 2022 For the tenth year in a row, Collin Colleges Respiratory Care Program has been recognized with the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation Respiratory Care (CoARC). The ten consecutive wins point to thecontinued excellenceof the colleges health sciences programs.

Collin College is one of eight programs from the state of Texas to receive the RRT credentialing honor this year. To be a recipient of this award, the program must have RRT credentialing success of 90 percent or higher and meet or exceed the CoARCs thresholds for Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credentialling success, attrition, and positive job placement.

Collin College has earned this honor for a decade, and I feel this award is truly a testament to our outstanding faculty who are passionate about teaching, said Araceli Solis, Respiratory Care program director. Having the most up-to-date technology and equipment also contributes to the positive outcomes that prepare our students for credentialing and future employment.

Over the past few years, 50-80 percent of Collin College Respiratory Care students each year have been employed while enrolled in the program and nearly all secure employment by graduation. The program also works closely with university partners to offer students options of transfer to pursue a bachelors degree in Respiratory Care.

The team of faculty, staff, and students are to be congratulated for this prestigious achievement and their commitment to offer such a standard of excellence year after year, said Dr. Mark Smith, provost at the McKinney Campus. Receiving this award back-to-back solidifies that Collin College is a leader in providing quality education for the respiratory care field.

This year, the Collin College Respiratory Care program celebrated its 30thgraduating class marking a total number of 541 graduated students to date.

Collin College serves more than 56,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) inCybersecurity,and a newBachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Construction Management to be offered beginning Fall 2022.The only public college based in Collin County, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and workforce development.
