Three Collin College students have been named 2023 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars. Fauzia Kazi, Isabella Maggard, and Amanuel Moges, who all reside in Plano, Texas, will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship, sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation,
recognizes 200 Phi Theta Kappa members with awards totaling $200,000. Twenty-five of these
scholarships are earmarked for society members who are active personnel or veterans
of the U.S. military. A panel of independent judges selected this year’s recipients
from nearly 1,100 applicants. Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars are selected based
on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.
Maggard, who is currently pursuing an Associate of Science degree, plans to transfer
to a four-year university to pursue a Bachelor's degree. She said one of her greatest
concerns is financing for tuition and living expenses as she is paying out of pocket
without much financial support.
“When I submitted my first round of scholarship applications, I was not expecting
any sort of success,” Maggard said. “However, I am very grateful to have received
the 2023 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship. Despite being unexpected, this
award enables me to further pursue my education."
Moges has immersed himself in a unique blend of studies with an interest in Computer
Science and Theatre. This combination has not only refined his technical skills but
also his creativity and adaptability. After his time at Collin, Moges aspires to transfer
to The University of Texas at Austin. He is also committed to enhancing his practical
experience by seeking various internships.
Post-graduation, Moges wishes to join a leading engineering firm as a full-time software
engineer, leveraging both his technical expertise and diverse educational background.
“When I first learned that I was selected as a 2023 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship
recipient, I was both humbled and elated,” Moges said. “It is a testament to hard
work and the unwavering support from my mentors here at Collin College. I am profoundly
grateful for this honor and for the opportunities it will bring.”
