Collin College celebrated its inaugural Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Construction
Management graduation class at a ceremony on Dec. 6 at the Collin College Technical
Campus located in Allen. Surrounded by members of Collin College Board of Trustees,
the college district president, industry partners, faculty, staff, family, and friends,
students received their hardhats and a medal. Each of these students are already employed
with construction companies in the North Texas region.
The Construction Management BAS program provides students with a wide range of marketable
skills including management principles; scheduling, planning, and cost estimating
for construction projects; behavior of building structures; principles of mechanical,
electrical, and plumbing systems; project safety; and risk management. Graduates in
the program will enter the high-demanding construction industry with opportunities
to work in a commercial or a residential environment.
“Construction Management was the third baccalaureate degree created by Collin College,
and our objective was to provide you with the training, experience, and opportunity
for academic excellence in this field to prepare you for an incredibly rewarding,
high-demand career,” said Dr. Neil Matkin, Collin College district president. “Living
in Collin County, with construction all around us for many years to come, you’re going
to have your work cut out for you!”
