Dr. Diana Hopes Shares reflections on First Semester as Frisco and Celina Campus Provost

Dr. Diana Hopes joined Collin College’s Frisco and Celina campuses as their new Campus Provost at the end of Fall 2023. She brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to student success to this leadership role.
Dr. Hopes’ journey in higher education began with teaching at esteemed institutions like Texas A&M University-Commerce, the University of North Texas, and Southern Methodist University. Inspired to make a broader impact, she pursued a doctorate to shape future educators. Her path then led her to leadership roles at Collin College, where she has served for eight years.
Collaboration is Key
Collaboration is a cornerstone of Dr. Hopes’ vision for the Frisco and Celina campuses.
“There is no question that collaboration is key to providing an extraordinary learning environment for students,” she said. “This is why I pride myself on being a good listener – a listener who genuinely cares and understands the needs of not only students but also, equally important, the needs of faculty and staff.”
Ensuring Relevant Programs for the Future Workforce
Staying relevant in the ever-evolving world of education is a key focus for Dr. Hopes. She emphasizes the importance of collaborating with local businesses and community leaders to ensure academic programs are aligned with future workforce needs. This focus ensures the Frisco and Celina campuses remain the “go-to” institution for transfer, workforce, and continuing education programs.
Student Success at the Heart of Everything
Dr. Hopes believes in fostering a culture that celebrates student learning.
“For me personally,” she said, “it’s about building a culture that shares a passion for student learning because when we genuinely believe in this, it is evident in everything we say and do. Our role, collectively, is to be supportive, be understanding, and ensure that students do not feel like they are alone in their educational journey.”
A Welcoming and Inclusive Campus Community
Dr. Hopes recognizes the importance of a diverse and inclusive campus environment. She leads by example, actively participating in student activities and events, and ensuring all students feel valued and like they belong.
Looking Ahead with Enthusiasm
In her first year, Dr. Hopes has gotten to know the students, faculty, staff, and communities served by the Frisco and Celina campuses. She’s enthusiastic about new program development and the launch of exciting initiatives like golf and e-sports teams.
Dr. Hopes shares a message of optimism about the future of Collin College Frisco and Celina campuses.
“We have an amazing team of educational leaders at all levels who are definitely prepared to meet the current and future educational and workforce needs of not only the Frisco and Celina campuses but of all Collin County,” Dr. Hopes said. “Our diverse offerings, from bachelor’s degrees and academic alliances with Texas A&M University-College Station, Texas State University, and the University of Texas at Dallas, to our robust workforce and continuing education programs, have certainly positioned us to serve the needs of our Collin County community and beyond.”
