Katie Robinson is a co-author of a paper accepted to the Journal of Election Administration, Research, & Practice out of Auburn University. The paper is titled “Facebook and School Bond Elections: Localizing Facebook’s Influence on Bond Elections.”
The Collin College Police Department recently hosted an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) session for the Collin County District Attorney’s Office.
Collin College Police Sgt. Carl Kuhlman recently completed his Federal Bureau of Investigation Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) class trilogy. The FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award is a sought-after accomplishment in law enforcement circles signifying completion of training, including: The Supervisor Leadership Institute, The Command Leadership Institute, and The Executive Leadership Institute. Collin College has multiple officers who have completed the training trilogy.
Laura Geoghegan, a student in the IT program, has been selected as a member of the Cisco Networking Academy Dream Team. This is the third time in a row a student from Collin College has been selected. Twice a year, Cisco Networking Academy selects between six and eight students from the Americas to attend a conference. The Dream Team program allows students to work with IT staff and engineers to set up and maintain the network and attend meet and greets with Cisco leadership. The Dream Team is a great opportunity for students to gain real-world experience, expand their network, and boost their résumés.
The Collin College Child Development Lab School has been selected for two program tours during the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children (TXAEYC) conference in Frisco this October. On October 10th, the lab school will be a part of the Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation tour highlighting high-quality accredited programs in the area. The lab school has also been selected for the outdoor learning playground tour. Only two schools were selected. Program leaders said it is “an incredible honor to be considered an early childhood program viewed as a ‘model’ program.” Administrators said they are “beyond excited to take on this significant task.”
John Daniels, the Wylie Campus Career Center manager, has been selected for Leadership Wylie.
Dr Kyle Bellue, associate dean of Academic Affairs and Workforce Programs at Wylie Campus, has been selected for Leadership North Texas, Class 16, sponsored by the North Texas Commission. Read an article about the Leadership North Texas class here.
iCollin Virtual Campus Associate Dean Jill Nugent was selected for the inaugural cohort of Leadership Prosper.
A proposal titled "Empowering Educators: Monthly OER Webinars for College Faculty" by Mindy Tomlin, scholarly communication librarian, and Andrew Trantham, electronic and continuing resources librarian, was accepted for presentation at the Open Texas 2024 conference, which will take place online from Sept. 25-27. The Open Texas conference draws together librarians, faculty, administrators, and other open education practitioners in Texas to discuss open education resources (OER).
Frisco Campus Science Labs Manager Melody Holmes has attained her Lab Safety Management Certificate, accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). This certification equips her with essential skills in lab safety protocols, risk management, and fostering a proactive safety culture. This certification will further enhance lab safety and operational excellence at Collin College, contributing to a safer and more efficient learning environment.
For the 12th straight year, the Collin College Respiratory Care program has received The Distinguished RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) Credentialing Success Award. Only 11 of the 486 Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited programs in the United States have received this award for 12 straight years. Of these 11, only two institutions in Texas have earned this honor, with Collin College being the only Texas community college to attain this feat.
Vocational Nursing student Francisco Colina Salas plans to donate stem cells to a 46-year-old with Acute Myeloid Leukemia after learning he is a bone marrow match. This match is a direct result of McKinney Campus’ efforts last semester in raising awareness of the NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program), formerly "Be The Match," drives for the college’s students. Dr. Mark Smith said the campus will continue to participate in “Be the Match.”
