The Collin College Frisco Campus will honor students, faculty, and staff military veterans
with a weeklong commemoration from Nov. 11-15.
Community members are welcome to attend several Veterans Week events at the campus,
located at 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco. There are multiple activities planned, and the
following events are open to the public:
World War I Mobile Museum – Throughout the week, community members can stop by the campus’s J Building to check
out this museum. Collin College was selected to host the traveling museum, which was
recently on display to thousands of visitors at the War Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The free museum features interactive and educational displays that will provide visitors
with unique opportunities to learn about history as it unfolded and how it still affects
the world today. Executive Director Keith Colley will be onsite daily to provide guided
presentations.
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier presentation – The Frisco Campus will host a presentation by former Army Sentinel Gregory Hooper. As a sentinel, Hooper’s sole military duty consisted of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier, a site at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia near our nation’s capital
that is guarded 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hooper will convey a story rich
in history and patriotism through words, images, and music.
Wall of Honor photographic display – Created by the college’s art professors, the Wall of Honor will showcase images
of student, faculty, and staff military veterans who are now members of the college
community. The display will be located on the first floor of the Frisco Campus Library.
Food donation drive – The Frisco Campus is partnering with Blue Star Mothers to collect donations for
active military members deployed overseas. Collection containers can be found in the
first-floor areas of campus buildings during Veterans Week.
