Hope can be a dangerous thing. It can also be a good thing – maybe the best of things. Join Collin College for a showing of and discussion about The Shawshank Redemption at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the McKinney Campus Conference Center. The screening and subsequent panel discussion are free and open to the public.

Stephen King’s novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption comes to life starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in a story of hope and redemption within the walls of an unforgiving prison. Locked away for a crime he did not commit, Andy Dufresne has to hold onto hope even as his life seems to be slipping away within an unjust system.

This year’s film series theme, “Film Adaptation: From Page to Screen,” includes a selection of works that transitioned from beloved books to the big screen. King has called The Shawshank Redemption one of his favorite film adaptations of his work.

The Auteur Film Series presents classic, foreign, and independent films with brief educational introductions before the screenings and faculty-led panel discussions afterward. The film series is designed to challenge the viewer’s intellect and encourage conversations that engage students in civil discourse.

The films will all be shown at 7 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before each film begins, and seating is limited.
