Collin College presents a free concert series in April, May

Collin College welcomes the public to a free music series in April and May at its Plano and Wylie campuses. Community members are invited to come and enjoy these free concerts performed by the college’s talented student musicians.

The following events are free and open to the public, although reservations are encouraged. Reservations can be made by clicking the appropriate calendar link at www.collin.edu/finearts/#Events. All events will be held at the Plano Campus or the Wylie Campus. 

Keyboard Ensemble
Wednesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in Plano Campus Room C103  
This concert will include performances for two, three, and four pianists at a time as well as works for piano with other instruments all performed by the Collin College Keyboard Ensemble. 

OneSound a Capella
Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre at Plano Campus  
Award-winning student a capella choir, OneSound, will wow the audience with their unique arrangements and choreography of current pop songs as well as hits from the past. The performance will be free of charge and family friendly.

Jazz Combo Too, Combo PM, and Jazz Lab Band
Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Wylie Campus Conference Center
This concert will feature Jazz Combo Too, the Collin Jazz Combo PM and Jazz Lab Band, with works from multiple styles, including swing, bebop, fusion, Latin, and popular music. 

String and Symphonic Wind Ensembles
Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Wylie Campus Conference Center  
The concert will feature traditional and contemporary works for orchestra and band. Students will take leadership roles as both soloists and chamber performers. 

Guitar Ensemble
Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in Plano Campus Room C103  
Collin College’s award-winning One O’Clock Guitar Ensemble will perform a program of music from various historical periods.

 Chamber Choir Spring Concert and Honors Voice Gala
Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in Plano Campus Room C103 
Sit back and pour yourself into an evening of beautiful choral and solo vocal music. The Honors Voice Gala features selections from the classical art song repertoire and select arias showcasing the singers from the voice studios of Natalie Arduino and Casey L. Carter. Chamber Choir, directed by Kathy Morgan, will perform repertoire with lush harmonies and melodies on the theme of Love by composers from the 19th-century to present day. 

Opera in a Box
Saturday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in the Plano Campus Living Legends Conference Center
Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m. in the Plano Campus Living Legends Conference Center
Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Wylie Campus Conference Center
Warren Martin’s The True Story of Cinderella is a charming and witty one-act operetta that brings a fresh, humorous twist to the classic fairy tale. Originally composed for Westminster Choir College in the 1950s, this delightful work features a lively, spoken-and-sung narration, playful ensemble writing, and a cast of colorful characters. With its clever libretto and engaging melodies, The True Story of Cinderella has become a beloved favorite among choral ensembles and opera programs, captivating audiences with its blend of comedy and musical charm. 

New Music Ensemble
Tuesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. in The Art Gallery at Collin College, Plano Campus
The New Music Ensemble will present a concert of original works by Collin College student composers focusing on contemporary experimental music. 

Solo Guitar
Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in Plano Campus Room C103  
This guitar recital will feature students performing classical guitar solo works from the Renaissance to the present day. 

Keyboard Ensemble
Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in Wylie Campus Room 305  
Don’t miss this unique program showcasing a blend of Russian masters and beloved Western composers featuring works by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Churchill, and Donizetti.
